Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia is not observing the U.S.-brokered “energy ceasefire.” He said Moscow should abide by the arrangement in the same way Kyiv is prepared to, but Russian attack drones continued to target Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure on Monday morning.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy said Russia had attacked 6 energy facilities in Ukraine in a single day. Speaking by video link at the Warsaw Security Forum, he added that Kyiv was ready to provide guarantees if the U.S. asked for them in order to build trust, but warned that Ukraine would respond if Russia refused to honor the ceasefire.
Zelenskyy said more Russian jet-powered Shaheds entered the skies over Kyiv and other cities through the morning. He said many were shot down, but otherwise the damage to energy infrastructure would have been greater. He described the attacks as Vladimir Putin’s answer to Donald Trump.
State-owned Naftogaz said an overnight Russian strike damaged the company’s gas production infrastructure in the Kharkiv region. The company said no one was injured, but the attack caused a fire at the facility. Acting CEO Sergii Fedorenko said critical equipment was damaged and employees were working to restore operations quickly and reduce risks to the energy system.
Donald Trump said on Sunday that an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine was “effective immediately,” adding that both sides had agreed to it. The Kremlin said on Monday that contacts on the issue were continuing and that more information would be provided later. Reuters reported that Moscow did not clarify whether any deal would be limited to oil refineries.
