Kiosk owners on Shinarrarneri Street in Yerevan say they are preparing to file a crime report over the actions of Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan and the municipality. According to Sputnik Armenia, kiosk owner Davit Nahapetyan made the announcement during a protest outside City Hall.
The protesters say their kiosks are due to be demolished on October 13 even though, they argue, the properties are backed by ownership certificates. They insist the structures are not unauthorized buildings but legally registered property.
The kiosk owners also argue that the municipality moved ahead without giving them enough time to examine the case and challenge the decision through legal channels. In their view, the planned demolition would violate their rights.
Nahapetyan said lawyers representing several business operators have already prepared the relevant document. It is addressed to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan, Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan, Police Chief of the Interior Ministry Kamo Tsutsulyan, and Investigative Committee Chairman Artur Poghosyan, with a copy to be sent to Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan.
The draft report says the municipality launched demolition work on property belonging to the kiosk owners under the direct instruction of Mayor Tigran Avinyan. The owners maintain that the municipality has no right to demolish property they hold under valid certificates issued by the Cadastre Committee.
