Italy has proposed removing the mention of 2027 from the NATO summit's final statement in Ankara regarding further support for Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing its sources, as noted by "European Truth".
According to agency sources, Rome aims to soften the wording regarding the continuation of military aid to Kyiv until the end of next year. The Italian side believes that the established timeline could limit diplomatic efforts and preclude the possibility of achieving a peaceful resolution through negotiations.
The current draft of the statement provides that allies will allocate approximately 70 billion euros to Ukraine in 2026 and 2027. Moreover, this refers not to new obligations but to funds that are formed from previously agreed annual payments by NATO and additional EU financing.
It is noted that the inclusion of specific financial parameters represents a change from last year's statement, which did not specify such figures. Italy, according to sources, has proposed not to mention 2027, justifying this by the need to maintain flexibility in the context of possible negotiations with Russia.
At the same time, sources emphasize that Rome is unlikely to block the overall consensus, and support for Ukraine from the alliance remains unchanged.
