“Russia is ready to discuss the details of restoring railway sections leading to the borders of Armenia with Turkey and Azerbaijan,” said Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in an interview with public television.
According to him, 2-3 days ago, the Armenian side received a signal from the Russian side regarding the restoration of the border sections of Eraskh-Nakhichevan and Akhurik-Turkey through the “South Caucasian Railways.”
“This signal indicates that they are willing to understand and discuss the nuances of who will invest how much, etc.,” the minister stated.
Commenting on the relations between Russia and Armenia, Mirzoyan said, “Russia is, in fact, more than a strategic partner in legal, economic, and political terms; we have agreements that make us allies, which is more than a strategic partner.”
He noted that Armenia and Russia are in the same economic integration space — the EAEU, CIS, but Yerevan has suspended its participation in the CSTO.
“However, we have bilateral agreements and obligations that make us allies in the defense sector as well, so there is no need for artificial topics,” Mirzoyan stated, noting that at the same time, certain problems have arisen in the relations between Armenia and Russia, which are noticeable in the media, statements by officials, and separate decisions of the Russian government, such as restrictions on the export of Armenian agricultural products, flowers, mineral waters, and alcohol;
“I can say that this indicates that we have a problem of returning to a mutual respect in our relations; we believe that our Russian partners should treat our right to make independent decisions with more respect,” the Armenian Foreign Minister stated.
