Honda to launch 15 new hybrid models by 2030

The Japanese automaker is shifting priorities toward a new generation of hybrid vehicles.

Japanese automaker Honda said it will introduce at least 15 new hybrid models to the global market by March 2030. The company is refocusing on a new generation of hybrids after absorbing about $9 billion in losses tied to the cancellation of its 0 Series electric-vehicle project.

The first vehicles equipped with the new “Honda Hybrid” system are set to reach the market next year. The move signals a broader reshaping of the company’s lineup around higher-demand hybrid offerings.

The new models will also feature the e-AWD electric all-wheel-drive system, which uses a separate electric motor to power the rear wheels. Honda says the goal is to combine better fuel efficiency with driving comfort.

According to the company, in large hybrid SUVs designed for the U.S. market, the combination of a new V6 engine, electric motors and an improved battery could cut fuel consumption by 30% compared with current non-hybrid models.

Alongside large SUVs, Honda also plans to refresh its mid-size models, including the CR-V and Civic.
