Armenia's Economic Activity Index Grew by 8% in January-May 2026

Armenia's economy continues to grow

In January-May 2026, compared to the same period last year, the economic activity index of the Republic of Armenia increased by 8%. This was reported by 'Business 24' based on preliminary data released by the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia. In May, compared to April, the economic activity index rose by 9.9%.

In May, the economic activity index reached 111.7% compared to May 2025.

Industry

From January to May, the volume of industrial production amounted to 1,265.8 billion drams, which is an increase of 12.2% compared to the same period in 2025. In May, there was a growth of 1.2% compared to April, and a growth of 9.5% compared to May 2025.

The industrial sector continues to maintain double-digit growth rates, remaining one of the main drivers of economic activity. The growth may be attributed to the expansion of the manufacturing industry, exports, and production activities, as well as the improvement in external demand.

Construction

In January-May, the volume of construction reached 207.3 billion drams, which is an increase of 24.1% compared to the same period in 2025. In May, there was a growth of 27.2% compared to April, and a growth of 27.1% compared to May last year.

Construction continues to show some of the highest growth rates, maintaining a leading role in economic growth. The sector's activity continues to be stimulated by the growth of residential construction, large infrastructure projects, and public and private investments.

Trade and Services

From January to May, the trade turnover amounted to 2,569.9 billion drams, which is an increase of 1.2% compared to the same period last year. Compared to May last year, the trade turnover has practically not changed (100.0%), while there was a decrease of 1.6% compared to April this year.

The volume of services (excluding trade) in January-May amounted to 1,733.6 billion drams, which is an increase of 9.1% compared to the same period in 2025.

Price Dynamics

In January-May, the consumer price index was 104.5% compared to the same period last year.

Overall, the first five months of 2026 have shown a stable and accelerating growth trend in the Armenian economy.
