Prices announced for new biometric passports and ID cards

Production and issuance of the new documents in Armenia will start on November 1, 2026.

Armenia’s new biometric passport will cost 28,650 drams, while the identification card will cost 5,950 drams. The figures were announced by Nelli Davtyan, acting head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Davtyan said the new biometric ID card will be mandatory for every citizen aged 16 and older, while the passport will be intended only for travel. As a result, citizens who do not plan to cross the border will not need to obtain the new biometric passport.

She said the new system will allow accurate identification of citizens and provide the highest level of protection for their legal identity and personal data. It will also expand access to digital public services and spare citizens from having to transfer information between different state agencies.

According to Davtyan, the services will be provided in modern offices and under appropriate conditions, so they cannot be compared with the 1,000-dram state fee charged for the old-style passport.

Production and issuance of the new biometric documents will begin on November 1, 2026. From that date, 14 offices will operate across Armenia, with the number set to rise to 23 early next year, adding new digital service capabilities.
