YEREVAN, July 21. /ARKA/. Employees of the community police unit of Yeghegnadzor uncovered a case of illegal basalt extraction in the Vayots Dzor region, the press service of the Armenian police reports.
According to the agency, a 70-year-old resident of the city of Vayk, with the assistance of a 49-year-old resident of the village of Malishka, allegedly organized the extraction of minerals without a license and the necessary permits.
During the inspection, it was found that volcanic basalt was illegally extracted on a community land plot in Malishka. The stone was then transported to a processing shop owned by the 70-year-old man in Vayk and sold.
As noted in the report, on June 20, police officers arrived at the extraction site, where they detained and brought to the station the 49-year-old man and four others.
The crane and truck used by them, loaded with basalt, were placed in a secured special parking lot.
The compiled materials were sent to the Vayots Dzor regional investigative department, where a criminal case was initiated.
According to preliminary data, significant damage was caused to the state.
