Gor Torosyan, the founder of one of the tourism companies in Gyumri, mentioned in an interview with Aravot.am that the most sought-after vacation destination for the residents of Shirak this year is again Georgia — Kobuleti and Ureki. This demand is driven by affordability rather than quality or comfort.
"People prefer to go to destinations where finances are a concern. For two people, this direction, including transportation, hotel, and two meals, costs between 130,000 to 150,000 drams, whereas staying one day in Dilijan or Tsaghkadzor in Armenia requires 60,000 to 70,000 drams. Of course, there are cheaper places in Armenia, but they are very few, with the cheaper options being around 30,000 to 35,000 drams. If someone has to pay 30,000 to 35,000 drams for one night, and that only includes breakfast without a pool or other services, the cost of getting to and from that place from Gyumri, if they have their own car, will add 10,000 to 15,000 drams, and if they don’t, taking a taxi or other transport will cost even more.
Naturally, a two-day vacation in Armenia will cost as much as a one-week vacation in Georgia," said Gor Torosyan.
He also mentioned that the second most popular destination is Egypt, but that has also become more expensive.
