Major U.S. technology companies are resisting the idea that they should shoulder a significant share of the cost of upgrading America’s aging power grid, according to OilPrice.com.
The report says the dispute centers on how the costs of modernizing transmission lines and the wider power system should be allocated as electricity demand rises.
The issue is gaining importance as data centers, artificial intelligence and broader digital expansion put additional pressure on the grid. At the same time, a large part of the infrastructure is seen as outdated and in need of fresh investment.
OilPrice.com says the debate reaches beyond one industry and points to a broader economic question: who should ultimately pay for large-scale power infrastructure upgrades in the United States.
