CNBC’s Daily Open put the spotlight on tech earnings, Asian economic data and energy dealmaking. One of the key corporate developments came from ASML, which reported third-quarter profit well ahead of expectations.
The Dutch semiconductor equipment maker also said some customers are showing interest in ordering its critical tools for 2029 and 2030. CNBC said those comments may reassure investors looking for clearer signals on long-term demand for ASML’s lithography machines as AI-related demand remains strong.
In Asia, attention also turned to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that Taiwan has agreed to buy 30% of gas sourced from a proposed liquefied natural gas project in Alaska. Trump said the agreement “guarantees a success.” At the same time, he has kept up pressure on South Korea to join the project.
Regional economic data pointed to a mixed outlook. China’s producer prices in September rose at their fastest pace in more than four years, while Singapore’s GDP growth slowed to 5.4% in the third quarter after reaching a four-year high in the previous quarter. The slowdown was linked to a decline in manufacturing, partly offset by expansion in construction.
CNBC’s roundup also noted that U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham is set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as European leaders signal further support. Separately, Hyundai Motor said it plans a “strategic” $15.5 billion investment in the country by 2032, while the Philippines’ central bank is bracing for a possible “Godzilla” El Niño alongside a prolonged oil shock.
