Former Deputy Tigran Abrahamyan stated that the issue of closing the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) has essentially been resolved, and discussions are now focused on potential actions. He noted that Azerbaijani specialists have analyzed the territory of Armenia as part of the TRIPP project, identifying locations for the installation of power line supports. Abrahamyan emphasized that this indicates Azerbaijani specialists are actively working in Armenia on matters of importance to them. Furthermore, he mentioned Azerbaijani President Aliyev's remarks about an expected energy crisis in Armenia following the closure of the ANPP, suggesting readiness for further actions in this regard.
It is important to note that the ANPP has been undergoing scheduled maintenance since April 1, and it is expected to remain offline for 153 days, significantly exceeding the typical 45-day maintenance period. The Armenian government has allocated 63.2 billion drams from the state budget for the second extension program, with plans to construct a new nuclear block by 2036. Currently, proposals from five countries, including Russia, the USA, China, South Korea, and France, are under consideration for the new station. However, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has indicated that the existing ANPP could operate until 2046, implying that plans for a new nuclear plant may be postponed.
