The Georgian government has amended the procedure and conditions for granting work permits to foreigners.
According to the amendments adopted on July 9 in the decision on the procedure for discussing and deciding on the issuance of residence permits in Georgia, it is clarified that if a foreigner is engaged in activities provided for by the law on "Labor Migration," then, in addition to other documents, they must present a document confirming this activity.
If a foreigner cannot provide standard certificates for objective reasons, it is possible to submit other credible evidence that confirms that the employer's annual turnover meets the requirements. Specifically, the minimum turnover threshold is set at 50,000 lari for each foreigner in regular enterprises and 35,000 lari for each foreigner in educational and medical institutions.
Another change concerns newly established companies: if the company was founded no earlier than 3 months ago, has at least 3 foreign employees, and the work permit for that foreigner is being issued for the first time, then there is no longer a need to submit documents confirming turnover. Instead, only a certificate regarding the number of foreign employees in the company is required.
However, in such cases, the residence permit is issued only for a period of 6 months.
In certain cases, a foreigner applying for a work permit may be required to provide information about the category of the size of the enterprise (or the status of a person representing public interest).
