Venezuela Gains Access to $346 Million in Blocked IMF Assets

Venezuela will use the funds for recovery after earthquakes

Delcy Rodriguez, the authorized representative of the President of Venezuela, announced that the country has gained access to $346 million of its assets held by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to Rodriguez, these funds will be directed towards the country's recovery after devastating earthquakes:

Rodriguez stated that the allocated funds are intended to provide assistance to affected families, secure housing for them, and restore infrastructure and key public services:

Previously, Delcy Rodriguez announced plans to create a recovery fund for Venezuela using the blocked IMF funds. A few years ago, the fund restricted the country's access to $5 billion, which it could claim under special drawing rights:

At the end of June, Venezuela experienced two earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 within less than a minute. The tremors resulted in significant destruction of residential buildings and various infrastructure objects:

According to previously published data, the number of casualties from the earthquakes in Venezuela has reached 5,069, with another 16,740 citizens injured to varying degrees. More than 21,000 residents have been accommodated in temporary camps:
