Radio Station Closed for Using 'Armenian Genocide' Term in Turkey Appeals to Court

The radio station "Açık Radyo" in Turkey has filed an individual lawsuit with the Constitutional Court (CC), challenging the decision to revoke its license. The station's license was revoked by Turkey's Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) after a guest used the term "Armenian Genocide" during one of its broadcasts. Although the station paid the imposed fine and fulfilled its obligations, RTÜK suspended its broadcasting, citing non-compliance with the suspension order, which the radio's management claims was due to technical issues. Turkey's highest administrative court also upheld the license revocation without providing any justification. Representatives of the radio station state that this process constitutes a gross violation of freedom of speech and thought, as well as infringing on the public's right to access information.
