According to data published by the European statistical office, the European Union imported 2.9 million tonnes of coffee from non-EU countries in 2025. The volume was only slightly higher than the 2.7 million tonnes recorded in 2015, but the value of those imports jumped sharply from €8.6 billion to €18.7 billion.

Brazil was the EU’s largest coffee supplier. Imports from the country totaled 1,005,200 tonnes, accounting for 34% of all coffee brought in from outside the bloc. Vietnam ranked second with 587,500 tonnes, or 20%. It was followed by Uganda with 262,400 tonnes (9%), Colombia with 162,900 tonnes (6%) and Honduras with 136,500 tonnes (5%).

Among importing countries, Germany took the largest share, receiving about one-third of all deliveries at 1,010,500 tonnes, or 34%. Italy followed with 608,000 tonnes (21%), ahead of Spain with 281,600 tonnes (10%), Belgium with 269,200 tonnes (9%) and the Netherlands with 216,600 tonnes (7%).

At the same time, more than 2.2 million tonnes of processed coffee were produced within the EU in 2025, including decaffeinated or roasted coffee and coffee substitutes. That was 12% higher than in 2015, while the value of output reached nearly €19 billion.

Germany led EU production with 561,200 tonnes, equal to 25% of total output. Italy followed with 514,200 tonnes (23%), then Spain with 211,900 tonnes (10%), France with 146,800 tonnes (7%), Poland with 134,800 tonnes (6%), Sweden with 79,400 tonnes (4%) and Finland with 39,000 tonnes (2%). The report says these seven countries accounted for 77% of total coffee production in the EU.
