SpaceX has secured a $1.6 billion contract from the U.S. Space Force to conduct 18 missions using Falcon 9 rockets by 2027, according to Reuters. This contract will involve launching Pentagon satellites designed for detecting and targeting aerial threats.
These contracts are part of the U.S. Space Force's main program, where SpaceX competes with United Launch Alliance and Blue Origin for significant government contracts.
According to Reuters, SpaceX has already received contracts worth at least $7 billion from the Pentagon in 2026. This comes as the Trump administration is developing the Golden Dome missile defense system, valued at around $185 billion, which heavily relies on Elon Musk's rocket and satellite technologies.
Previously, SpaceX also won contracts worth $6.5 billion for developing satellite systems for the U.S. Space Force. The new contract is part of an initiative by the U.S. Space Force to significantly accelerate the acquisition of space vehicles and rocket launches from the private sector.
