A large sodium-ion battery manufacturing plant is being constructed in Northern California, capable of producing 4 GWh of batteries annually, enough to power nearly 4 million households. This marks the first U.S. facility dedicated solely to grid-scale sodium-ion energy storage systems.
Peak Energy, the project's developer, states that their technology will significantly reduce costs for energy storage needs. These new batteries will manage operational heat without mechanical components like fans or liquid pumps.
With a guaranteed uptime of 99%, the sodium-ion batteries are expected to enter production and begin shipments in Q1 2027.
