South Korean Samsung Electronics is creating a new division to accelerate the development and commercialization in the field of robotics, according to the company's announcement.
The new robotics division will be named RX (Robotics eXperience) and will report directly to Samsung's CEO.
This new division will be responsible for developing mid- to long-term strategies, business development, and creating key technologies. Additionally, it will expand the company's research capabilities both in South Korea and abroad.
The robotics strategy division will be led by Executive Vice President Lee Dong Gun, who previously held the same position at Hyundai Motor, including overseeing the operations of its subsidiary Boston Dynamics.
Samsung also plans to establish specialized research hubs in the USA, China, and Japan.
Earlier, the company announced its intention to develop humanoid robots, which will initially be used in manufacturing processes and later implemented in consumer electronics and retail markets. The company expects to achieve tangible results in this direction within the current year.
