YEREVAN, July 31. /ARKA/. The Russian Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, stated that outside the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Armenia is unlikely to expect comparable conditions for natural gas supplies.
Commenting on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement about seeking alternatives to relations with Russia in economic and political spheres, Reshetnikov noted that the EAEU remains a key market for Armenian resources.
"Within the common gas market of the Union, Russia supplies gas to Armenia at a price of $177.5 per thousand cubic meters. Compared to current European prices exceeding $600 per thousand cubic meters, this can only be described as subsidization. This amount totals about $1 billion a year. It is unlikely that anyone outside the Union can offer Armenia such conditions," TASS quotes the minister.
Gazprom-Armenia CJSC is a 100% subsidiary of the Russian holding Gazprom, the monopoly supplier of natural gas from Russia to Armenia for domestic consumption.
Currently, the price of Russian gas for Armenia at the border is $165 per 1,000 cubic meters. This price has been in effect since January 1, 2019, and according to current Armenian-Russian agreements, it should not change until the end of 2031.
