Russia insists on holding a referendum regarding Armenia's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) or the European Union (EU) to determine which foreign policy choice the country has made. This opinion was expressed by political scientist Benjamin Matevosyan on his Telegram channel, noting that not everyone fully understands why this is necessary.
As the political scientist explained, Russia is preparing for war with the EU, and it is important for Moscow to know which camp Armenia will be in - that of Russia's allies or that of those who will 'storm Russian territories.' 'That is why a referendum is needed for a final answer to the question of where the Armenian people see themselves. Not elections, the results of which are trying to present as a referendum in support of the course of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, but rather a separate, full-fledged referendum,' Matevosyan noted.
