The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia, Rosselkhoznadzor, announced that it has banned the sale of dairy products imported from Armenia in the Russian market, deeming them unsafe.
According to the agency's statement, from July 14 to 21, Rosselkhoznadzor specialists conducted inspections at Armenian dairy processing enterprises that had previously received permission to enter the Russian market based on guarantees from the Armenian veterinary service.
The Russian side claims that during the inspections, similar violations were again recorded, which had also been identified during inspections in 2023-2024.
Rosselkhoznadzor also claims that during the current inspection, it was found that milk from infected animals was used in the production of dairy products exported to Russia.
Additionally, there were confirmed cases where raw materials imported from third countries were used in the production of high-fat dairy products intended for the Russian market.
The report states that Armenia has not yet established a system that would allow for the verification of the origin and safety of milk or other dairy raw materials used in production.
The Russian side also highlights the need for improvement of laboratory capabilities.
Considering the recorded violations, Rosselkhoznadzor stated that it has taken measures to prevent the entry of particularly dangerous infections into Russia.
Russia began a large-scale wave of economic restrictions against Armenia at the end of April this year.
