Rosselkhoznadzor (Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision of the Russian Federation) is implementing new restrictions on imports from Armenia, this time limiting dairy imports from Armenia to Russia:
According to Armenpress, this is stated in a message released by the service:
“From July 14 to 21, specialists from Rosselkhoznadzor inspected Armenian dairy processing plants that had previously been opened under the guarantees of the veterinary service and supplied their products to Russia. The work carried out confirmed similar violations that had been recorded during inspections conducted in 2023-2024,” the message states.
According to the service, “during the current investigation, it was found that milk from infected animals was used to produce products supplied to Russia.”
“To date, Armenia has not established a system to verify the origin and safety of milk or other raw materials used in production. Considering the identified violations, Rosselkhoznadzor has taken measures to prevent the importation of particularly dangerous infections into Russia,” the service's message noted.
Recently, Russia has restricted or completely banned the import of many Armenian goods, justifying these decisions by the discovery of various violations. Such actions by Russia have particularly intensified ahead of the parliamentary elections in Armenia and continue to this day.
Amid these import bans from Russia, Armenia is diversifying its export markets towards the European Union and other markets. The European Union has also stated that Russia is applying economic pressure on Armenia and has expressed its readiness to assist Armenia:
