According to Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, during a phone conversation between President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the necessity of holding a referendum on Armenia's accession to the European Union was emphasized.
He noted that Putin and Pashinyan discussed “bilateral relations between the countries.”
“The conversation continued around the recently adopted understanding and statement by the leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries regarding Armenia. The necessity of quickly conducting a referendum in Armenia was emphasized to determine which direction Armenia wants to take,” Peskov said.
The press service of the Armenian government, commenting on the conversation, stated that “Pashinyan emphasized that conducting a referendum is practically possible only after Armenia officially applies for EU membership, and when this issue becomes significant.”
Earlier, it was reported that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The interlocutors exchanged views on the agenda of Armenian-Russian relations, particularly on issues that have arisen in bilateral economic relations.
