Ukraine Is Now Targeting Iranian Shipping in the Caspian Sea

Ukraine has struck vessels linked to Iranian military supplies

Ukraine has announced that it struck Russian and sanctioned cargo vessels allegedly involved in transporting military supplies linked to Iran. Analysts believe the attack could complicate Russia-Iran logistics but is unlikely to fundamentally change the course of the war.

The incident further intertwines the Ukraine conflict with broader Middle East tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Iranian-designed drones have wreaked havoc for Ukrainian forces battling Russian troops as Moscow took Tehran's technology and ran with it, supercharging production and deploying drones in devastating droves.

As far as Ukraine is concerned, that makes Iran an indirect combatant. And that means Iranian cargo ships heading to Russia are fair game as far as military targets go. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the country has achieved very strong results with long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea, including vessels used in military cargo shipments involving Iran. Iranian authorities reacted angrily to the ship attack, stating that one sailor was killed and vowing retaliation.
