In the Armenian insurance market, the loss ratio for OSAGO decreased to 72.1% in the first half of 2026, down from 73.3% in the same period of 2025. This decrease occurred against the backdrop of an acceleration in the annual growth of active contracts from 7.6% to 9.2%, the volume of insurance premiums from 16.8% to 19.1%, and a more noticeable acceleration in the growth of claims volume from 6.1% to 18.3%. Notably, this indicator began to decline in May of this year, following an increase over the previous four months, while throughout 2025, the indicator had decreased from 81.8% to 76.3%.
Experts note that at the same time, the cost of OSAGO is rising, allowing insurance companies to compensate for inflationary risks against the backdrop of overall rising inflation and increasing spare parts costs. Moreover, there is a trend where insurance companies charge higher fees from less loss-prone drivers, thus smoothing their overall statistics.
According to the Bureau, the number of vehicles with OSAGO policies is growing moderately year-on-year by 6.7% (compared to 3.5% last year). In quantitative terms, as of June 2026, there were 727,958 vehicles in the country with OSAGO contracts, while the number of active contracts was 722,318 (after deducting terminated contracts, it was 660,914).
