Narek Karapetyan, the first candidate on the electoral list of 'Strong Armenia', has been subjected to a travel ban and a bail of 1 billion drams. This was reported by the General Prosecutor's Office.
The Prosecutor's Office refused to provide details about the case, citing the ongoing investigation.
Karapetyan is also avoiding disclosing the content of the charges against him, and he has not clarified what circumstances the Prosecutor's Office has based the case on. In a social media post, he only claimed that 'simply submitting a political application in Armenia is already a crime.' - 'Therefore, there is no need to delve into what you will be accused of,' he said.
Recently, the prosecutor initiated public criminal proceedings against Narek Karapetyan under Article 236, Part 2 of the Criminal Code - 'coercing participation in a gathering through violence or threats,' and Article 296, Part 3, Clause 3 - 'money laundering in particularly large amounts.'
Earlier, the Central Electoral Commission approved the indictment against the first candidate on the 'Strong Armenia' electoral list after a two-day investigation but returned the request for consent to detain him to the Prosecutor's Office.
