Meta's Reality Labs division, which focuses on virtual reality device development, reported a loss of $4.62 billion for the second quarter of 2026, according to CNBC.
During the reporting period, the division's revenue was $431 million, surpassing the $370 million from the same period last year. Meanwhile, the operational loss increased from $4.53 billion last year to $4.62 billion. Analysts had predicted a loss of $5.07 billion against a revenue of $423.4 million.
Since the end of 2020, Reality Labs, which produces Quest VR headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses, has accumulated an operational loss exceeding $80 billion. In 2021, Mark Zuckerberg rebranded the company to Meta, focusing on the development of digital worlds, but due to limited consumer interest in virtual reality, the company's attention has gradually shifted towards smart glasses developed in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica.
