The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is classified as a regulated integration union, allowing member states to impose temporary restrictions if they are related to issues of energy, food, or other economic security. This was stated by political science doctor and professor Vage Davtyan:
He noted that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that if restrictions against Armenia are not lifted, it will be the 'beginning of the end of the EAEU' is interesting only from a theoretical perspective:
Davtyan believes that this statement demonstrates a common mistake in interpreting Eurasian integration as a liberal common market model, whereas the EAEU was originally formed as a model of regulated integration.
According to him, such practices are not exceptions and do not automatically indicate a crisis of the integration project.
