On July 10, 2026, the delegation of the Republic of Armenia participated in and delivered a speech at the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on HIV/AIDS. In the speech, Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to eliminate HIV as a public health threat by 2030.
Progress in the areas of HIV prevention, testing, and treatment was highlighted. It was noted that from 2024, the Armenian government will fully fund antiretroviral medications from state resources, which is crucial for ensuring stable and reliable access to treatment.
It was also added that the expansion of testing and healthcare service coverage has contributed to earlier diagnosis of the disease and improved case detection. The necessity of ensuring equality, protecting human rights, and eliminating discrimination as an effective means of combating HIV was emphasized.
