The government of Liechtenstein has reported a major cyberattack that resulted in the leak of data from approximately 31,000 individuals.
The attack targeted the state database of economically interested persons, which holds the information of the actual owners of companies and other organizations.
Authorities report that there are currently no signs that the data has been altered or deleted.
Preliminary information indicates that hackers gained access to the system on July 30. Authorities have established a crisis headquarters, and the circumstances of the incident and the motives behind the attack are still under investigation.
The government of Liechtenstein notes that the registry was created to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
