Its essence is as simple as it is brutal: scammers create conditions under which the purchase of a token is carried out without any obstacles, while any attempt to sell it is blocked by the smart contract's programming code. The investor eagerly watches their profit grow on the screen, unaware that their funds are already 'locked' inside a harmful contract.
The mechanisms of such frauds are diverse, but the end result is always the same: the user is left with tokens that can no longer be exchanged for liquid currency. Scammers use various technical tricks, from direct blocking of sales in the logic of the smart contract to so-called ‘tax traps’. In the latter case, the transaction is formally executed, but the commissions set by the scammers, often exceeding 95%, effectively deprive the investor of their funds. For example, if an investor tries to lock in a profit of $1000, they may actually receive only about $20.
The success of these schemes is based on exploiting human psychology and the fear of missing out (FOMO). When a large portion of the token is technically deprived of the ability to sell, the natural pressure from sellers is absent on the chart, creating the illusion of healthy and rapid growth. Seeing an endless 'green candle' and succumbing to the noise created on social media, new buyers themselves fill the liquidity pool that the project's creator intends to drain at the right moment.
Particularly dangerous are hidden control mechanisms that allow the contract owner to change the rules of the game even after trading has started. Often, the project appears completely legitimate until the creator unilaterally activates a transaction ban for certain addresses or includes the liquidity pool address in a 'blacklist'. The unverifiability of the initial code or the retention of unlimited administrative rights by an anonymous owner should be viewed as serious warning signs, at which point any transaction should be immediately abandoned.
In this ongoing 'arms race' between scammers and users, smart protective systems are playing an increasingly important role. Technological solutions embedded in Binance Wallet allow for the automatic verification of tokens and display risk warnings directly on the wallet interface.
These tools analyze trading history and suspicious functions of the smart contract, helping traders to timely detect anomalies such as the absence of sales in the market or hidden privileges of the owner. However, no automated system can fully replace the investor's conscious verification. The technological protection of the wallet is only the first layer of defense, while the responsibility for the final decision always rests with the individual. A thorough examination of the project's credibility, transparency, and programming code remains the only reliable way to avoid becoming the next victim, with funds forever trapped in a 'honeypot' against a backdrop of false market victories.
