Iran and Armenia to Establish Joint Working Group in Energy Sector

During a working visit to Iran, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan met with Iran's Minister of Oil Mohsen Paknejadi, as reported by the Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure:

The parties discussed issues related to increasing the volumes of supplied gas and expanding trade in the energy sector:

During the meeting, an agreement was reached to establish a joint specialized working group that will focus on exploring new directions for the development of energy cooperation and developing joint initiatives:

The Iranian Minister of Oil noted that the existing energy partnership between the two countries is based on an agreement for the exchange of gas for electricity:

However, according to him, Iran has proposed a new trade framework aimed at expanding natural gas exports:

According to IRNA, the Iranian Minister of Oil described Armenia as “one of the very good neighbors” of the Islamic Republic after the meeting, emphasizing that the two countries have many opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the energy sector, which should be further developed:

The Armenian side also discussed issues related to expanding cooperation and deepening interaction in the fields of infrastructure and oil industry:

On July 19, Iran's ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani stated that the volumes of gas supply from Iran to Armenia will double in the near future:

Since 2009, Armenia has been receiving gas from Iran and, converting it into electricity at a thermal power plant, returns it back to Iran:
