The Greek Parliament has approved the largest arms procurement in history.
As part of the extensive program 'Achilles Shield,' Athens will acquire air defense and missile defense systems worth a total of 3.5 billion euros.
The deal includes the purchase of the Barak MX air defense system, produced by Israel Aerospace Industries and equipped with rocket engines from the Israeli company Tomer.
Also included are the 'David's Sling' missile defense systems and the SPYDER surface-to-air missile system, which were also developed by Rafael.
These systems are designed to provide medium-range protection against drones, aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and maritime targets.
The 'Achilles Shield' program has become Greece's largest purchase from Israel. Previously (in 2025), a significant contract between the two countries was the sale of PULS rocket-artillery systems produced by Elbit Systems, valued at 760 million euros.
It is worth noting that in 2023, Azerbaijan also acquired Barak MX systems worth 1.2 billion euros, while Finland purchased the 'David's Sling' system for about 300 million euros. In June 2026, Rafael signed a contract to supply SPYDER systems to Romania worth nearly 2 billion euros.
The new deal with Greece strengthens Israel's position as a leading supplier of air defense and missile defense systems and ensures a large portfolio of long-term orders.
Additionally, the intensive armament of Greece and Cyprus is viewed as a significant factor in countering Turkey's ambitions in the Mediterranean.
