The State Revenue Committee of Armenia has uncovered another case of significant tax evasion by an economic entity in the fuel sector.
“Operational data were received in the second department of the investigation and operational intelligence division of the SRC, indicating that a company engaged in retail fuel sales on the Yerevan-Sevan highway does not fully reflect its revenues from sales in the tax calculations submitted to the tax authorities.
Employees of the operational intelligence division undertook and carried out extensive operational and investigative measures. Data regarding sales were extracted and examined from the fuel dispensers installed at the company's gas stations. Additionally, sales accounting journals and notebooks containing informal records were studied. The obtained data were compared with the tax calculation data available in the SRC's information database for the same periods. It was revealed that the company had understated its sales turnover of compressed natural gas, liquefied gas, gasoline, and diesel fuel by approximately 600 million drams from 2022 to 2026. As a result, around 210 million drams were not calculated and not paid to the state budget,” the SRC reported.
In connection with this fact, a report on the apparent crime has been submitted to the Main Investigation Department for Economic Crimes and Smuggling of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, where a criminal case has been initiated under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
The committee's statement notes that the investigation and operational intelligence division continues to take necessary measures not only to uncover committed crimes but also to prevent them, while urging economic entities to refrain from such corrupt behavior and not to commit violations, and buyers are also urged to provide cash register receipts or other accounting documents as required by law.
Notice: A person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia, by a court decision that has entered into legal force.
