Armenia's Marriott Hotel to be inspected after guests' food poisoning at French embassy reception

Food safety inspection body to begin checks at Marriott Hotel

The Armenian food safety inspection body is set to inspect the Marriott Hotel following food poisoning incidents among guests at a reception held at the French embassy in Yerevan. On July 17, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) reported that 10 individuals were diagnosed with "acute intestinal infection" after attending the reception on July 14.

During the epidemiological investigation, it was determined that all affected guests had consumed food served at the embassy event, including shawarma, pepperoni pizza, pork skewers, chicken, strawberries, and seafood bruschetta.

In response to the report, the inspection body immediately began tracing the origin of the food used at the reception.

On July 23, the French embassy in Armenia confirmed that the catering was organized by the Marriott Hotel in Yerevan.

Given that the report of the incident was made nearly ten days after the event, it is clear that the food in question had already been fully consumed. Nevertheless, to prevent similar incidents in the future and to protect public health, an inspection of the Marriott Hotel will be conducted.
