The Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran will establish a joint specialized working group in the energy sector, focusing on gas trade.
According to reports from the Armenian news agency Armenpress, this was announced by the Iranian Mehr agency.
The agreement was declared after a meeting between Armenia's Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan and Iran's Minister of Oil Mohsen Paknejad in Tehran.
“Commending Armenia for standing by Iran during difficult times, Paknejad reaffirmed Tehran's readiness to strengthen cooperation with its northwestern neighbor within the framework of its technical and economic capabilities,” the Iranian media reports.
According to the Iranian Minister of Oil, the two sides discussed a wide range of energy projects, including the expansion of bilateral trade, the export of technical and engineering services, the construction of an oil refinery, and the supply of petroleum products to Armenia.
Paknejad also stated that Tehran and Yerevan agreed to create a joint specialized working group and proposed to start work as soon as possible so that specific results could be assessed in the next phase of bilateral negotiations.
The Iranian Minister of Oil reminded that the energy partnership between the two countries is based on a gas-electricity exchange agreement.
Earlier, it was reported that Armenia's Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan is on a working visit to Tehran.
