The increase in competitiveness of the mining industry, the digitization of production processes, the application of artificial intelligence and innovative technologies have become key topics of the Mining Innovation Summit held within the framework of the Seaside Startup Summit. The conference brought together representatives from the mining sector, technology industry, startup ecosystem, government agencies, and international partners to discuss new opportunities for cooperation in two important directions of Armenia's economy:
According to Vardan Djahanyan, the first deputy director of the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine, technological progress for humanity cannot be imagined without metals, and a crucial component of their effective and responsible use is the implementation of digital technologies:
“Armenia has potential; we are a country rich in minerals, and this potential must be used correctly for the benefit of our state and for our economic development. Like any modern sector, mining cannot operate without digital technologies,” Djahanyan said:
Sadik Azimov, deputy director of ZPМК and director of digitalization, is confident that even a small mistake in the mining sector can have significant economic consequences, making digital systems for managing production processes, quality control, and resource planning a strategic necessity:
“The mining sector is also ready to invest in technologies, as it is one of the major consumers of these technologies, and their application is extremely important for the sector,” Azimov noted:
Asatur Vardanyan, deputy minister of territorial administration and infrastructure of Armenia, stated that such initiatives provide an opportunity not only to showcase the role of the mining industry in Armenia's economy but also to attract innovative ideas to the sector:
“This is a good platform for proposing innovative startups and ideas that can develop and significantly contribute to the digital development, transformation, and technological re-equipment of the mining industry,” Vardanyan believes:
The State Environmental and Mining Inspection has already widely implemented digital technologies to enhance control efficiency:
“In the mining sector, we have quite good results in the sense that violations are recorded less frequently,” he said:
Haik Aloyan, executive director of Lydian Armenia, also emphasized the role of technologies, noting that data collection, environmental monitoring, and the implementation of digital solutions have already become an integral part of modern mining:
