The TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument) expert mission of the European Commission conducted a three-day seminar in Armenia dedicated to improving the implementation mechanisms of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The seminar, which involved experts from the Czech Republic, aimed at enhancing mechanisms to combat illegal trade, legal regulation, and more.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Environment, Frank Hess, head of the EU Delegation's cooperation department in Armenia, noted that each country, including Armenia, must intensify efforts to prevent international trade in endangered species and ensure the effective implementation of the CITES Convention.
He stated that holding such a seminar ahead of COP17 is particularly significant in terms of strengthening national capacity and deepening international cooperation.
The national coordinator of the CITES Convention in Armenia, Tatevik Kirakosyan, expressed gratitude to the European Union, the TAIEX program, and Czech experts for their support and experience exchange. She noted that the main goal of the mission is to improve the implementation mechanisms of the CITES Convention in Armenia and strengthen cooperation between responsible agencies.
Representatives from the Ministry of Environment, the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body, the Customs Service of the State Revenue Committee, the Food Safety Inspection Body, the A. Takhtajan Botanical Institute, the Yerevan Zoo, and other relevant state structures participated in the seminar.
