The Eurasian Union is starting to implement a system for verifying the IMEI codes of imported mobile phones. Currently, the verification of these codes is registered in the legal framework of the EAEU only for Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, both in cases where consumers import phones independently and in cases of electronic commerce orders (both directly from foreign electronic platforms and from warehouses located within the Eurasian Union).
These requirements will come into effect once the changes to the EAEU customs code are enacted.
"Considering the trends in the registration and verification of subscriber devices for mobile communication imported into the EAEU, we believe that the necessity for IMEI code marking will eventually extend to other EAEU countries as well," representatives from the EAEU customs legislation and law enforcement practice department told Armenia Sputnik.
