Yerevan-Moscow relations are deteriorating. Following a phone conversation with Putin, Prime Minister Pashinyan announced today that the fate of the Eurasian Union is in question due to economic restrictions against Armenia:
“We all now acknowledge that this problem belongs to Armenia, but this problem is not only Armenia's, it is the EAEU's problem, because it turns out that the Eurasian Economic Union is paralyzed and not functioning. If this issue is not resolved quickly, allow me to predict that this will be the beginning of the end of the EAEU,” Pashinyan said:
In the EAEU, however, a statement has been adopted against Armenia, demanding a clear choice - does Yerevan remain in this economic bloc or take the European path:
During the Armenian pre-election campaign, Russia banned the import of Armenian-origin goods, citing sanitary and safety issues. And while Yerevan is mediating at the highest level to end this policy, Moscow is expanding the list of prohibited products:
At the same time, the Russians are daily discussing the issue of a referendum on external orientation, expecting that Yerevan will soon hold a popular vote on the question of “European or Eurasian Union”:
