The European Union has adopted a new sanctions package against Russia after 10 days of tense negotiations, which is the most extensive since the start of the war against Ukraine.
The blacklist includes banks, companies dealing with cryptocurrencies, more than 40 vessels from a shadow fleet, as well as several oil refineries located in Russia and Belarus.
The negotiations had been stalled for weeks as the European Commission proposed to ban the re-export of Russian liquefied gas through EU ports to third countries starting next year, which Greece opposed.
After prolonged discussions, the parties agreed to postpone the implementation of this proposal for a year. In exchange, Greece agreed to restrictions on the Russian oil sector. Accordingly, the maximum price threshold set for Russian oil at $44.10 per barrel will remain in effect for another year.
