David Gevorgyan Appointed Manager of Araratcement

David Gevorgyan has previously held various government positions

The Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, has appointed David Gevorgyan as the manager of the Araratcement plant.

Gevorgyan, a member of the Civil Contract party, was appointed Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Development on June 8, 2018, served as the governor of Aragatsotn from 2018 to 2021, and was appointed assistant to the Prime Minister in November 2022.

In mid-July, it became known that the management of the Araratcement plant, owned by businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, had passed to the state. According to the prosecutor's office, the Anti-Corruption Committee made this decision within the framework of the confiscation of illegally obtained property.

The potential nationalization of Araratcement was one of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's key themes during the election period. While Gagik Tsarukyan was campaigning for a change of power, Prime Minister Pashinyan openly threatened that Tsarukyan would be deprived of his freedom and assets:

Gagik Tsarukyan has been in custody since July 7, and large companies owned by his family have been sealed.

One of the largest assets belonging to the leader of the BHK was Araratcement, although the government decided to resume the plant's operations.
