China recently unveiled a renewable energy development program that sets a mandatory target of increasing wind and solar energy production by 53% over the next five years.
The program aims to raise the total production of renewable energy to 1.8 billion tons of standard fuel by 2030, compared to 1.18 billion tons in 2025.
This is the first time China has made its green energy target mandatory.
According to the program, wind and solar energy supported by energy storage systems must provide 8% of installed capacity during peak load times by 2030.
Renewable sources must also cover 20% of electricity consumption during periods of sharp demand increases.
China plans to add more than 300 gigawatts of renewable energy peak capacity by 2030.
This refers to renewable energy capacities that can be activated during periods of demand growth.
The program includes the use of wind and solar energy equivalent to 150 million tons of standard fuel outside the energy sector.
This includes heating and cooling based on renewable sources, as well as the production of green hydrogen, which, according to Beijing, will reach 2 million metric tons per year by 2030.
China aims to increase hydropower capacity to 570 GW by 2030, compared to the target of 450 GW set for 2025.
The program also includes the construction of offshore wind energy bases in deep waters.
Beijing plans to implement experimental projects for renewable energy megabases that will transmit 100% green electricity.
According to Global Energy Monitor, wind and solar energy currently account for about 20% of the electricity transmitted through China's ultra-high voltage power lines.
