The development of relations with Europe and the USA should occur in such a way that Armenia does not jeopardize its trusting and important relations with regional powers. This was stated by analyst Tigran Dumikyan on his Facebook page against the backdrop of the Armenian authorities' intensified discussions around the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP) project amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
The expert reminded that the project, which implies a certain format of American presence on Armenian territory, has raised sensitivity and concern in the relations between Yerevan and Tehran. "Tehran has repeatedly emphasized that it is closely monitoring any initiatives in the region that could enhance US influence or alter the existing strategic balance," Dumikyan noted.
He also highlighted that Armenia's economy is significantly dependent on Iran, as the country imports about 20% of its natural gas from Iran, which plays an important role in ensuring the stability of the country's energy system.
"The bilateral trade turnover is about $800 million a year, which is a significant indicator for Armenia's economy," he added.
Dumikyan concluded that Armenia needs a balanced and forward-looking foreign policy that will serve the long-term interests of our state and people.
