A broad debate has erupted in the US tech sector over the AI 'distillation' method, which allows for the creation of competitive neural networks at minimal costs, according to CNBC.
More than 20 major corporations, including Nvidia, Microsoft, and Meta, have opposed restrictions on this technology, calling it a crucial tool for market development. Meanwhile, representatives from Anthropic, valued at nearly $1 trillion, have claimed that Chinese startups are widely copying the company's developments.
Experts say that using the responses of advanced systems to train cheaper alternatives raises questions about intellectual property protection, but high costs are forcing businesses to seek ways to improve efficiency.
The discussion intensified after the Chinese lab Moonshot AI released the open model Kimi K3, which quickly reached the level of the best commercial products from OpenAI and Anthropic.
“To create more powerful compact models, it is necessary to have a leading system so that its distillation can then be implemented,” explained Jeff Dean, head of AI at Google.
