Discussion on Granting Armenia Market Economy Status by the USA Held at the Ministry of Economy

Economic cooperation between Armenia and the USA is developing dynamically

The Minister of Economy of Armenia, Gevorg Papoyan, met on July 23 with the Chargé d'Affaires of the USA in Armenia, David Allen, and the head of the economic and trade department of the US embassy, Edward Eikler. During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the process of granting Armenia market economy status by the United States.

Papoyan expressed confidence that the existing effective cooperation would contribute to the consistent advancement of this process and further development of the bilateral economic agenda of mutual interest.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Economy, the interlocutors confirmed during the discussions that economic cooperation between Armenia and the USA is developing dynamically, noting the positive progress achieved recently.

It is noteworthy that according to the RA Statistical Committee, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and the USA increased by 28.2% in January-May 2026, amounting to $198.7 million. Exports amounted to $15.8 million, a decrease of 33% year-on-year, against an increase in imports of 39.2% to $182.8 million.
