Lawyer: Court transferred Armen Ashotyan to house arrest

Armen Ashotyan has been transferred to house arrest

The Appeals Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia has replaced the detention measure for Armen Ashotyan, the Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), from arrest to house arrest. His lawyer Ruben Melikyan announced on his Facebook page that the decision will take effect today. "The Appeals Anti-Corruption Court has replaced the arrest imposed on Ashotyan with house arrest. The change in the detention regime will take place today," the lawyer wrote.

Recall that Ashotyan was detained on June 5, and a detention measure was applied for one month. On July 3, the detention period was extended for another month. According to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, "the former Minister of Education and Science of the Republic, Armen Ashotyan, in collusion with six individuals, abused his official position, helping former Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan and his son Artyom Khachatryan acquire property that is not subject to alienation."
