According to data provided by the Statistical Committee of Armenia, as of May 2026, the number of employees in Armenia reached 821,144, including 223,735 in the public sector and 597,409 in the private sector. It is noteworthy that this represents a 3.9% increase compared to the comparable figure from 2025.

In May 2026, the largest number of employees in Armenia was in wholesale and retail trade, as well as in the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with 139,266 employees, all of whom are in the private sector.
Following this is the education sector, with 129,555 employees, of which 115,787 are in the public sector and 13,768 in the private sector.
Manufacturing employs 94,938, all of whom are in the private sector.
Healthcare and social services employ 56,864, with 27,622 in the public sector and 29,242 in the private sector.
Information and communication employ 45,987, with 2,158 in the public sector and 43,829 in the private sector. Specifically, information technology employs 34,523, with 417 in the public sector and 34,106 in the private sector.
Accommodation and food service employs 45,567, all of whom are in the private sector.
Construction employs 44,578, with 322 in the public sector and 44,256 in the private sector.
Public administration and defense, as well as mandatory social security, employ 41,205, all of whom are in the public sector.
Professional, scientific, and technical activities employ 32,710, with 7,351 in the public sector and 25,359 in the private sector. Specifically, research and development employ 6,824, with 5,613 in the public sector and 1,211 in the private sector.
Financial and insurance activities employ 27,056, with 897 in the public sector and 26,159 in the private sector.
Other service activities employ 26,426, with 361 in the public sector and 26,065 in the private sector.
Administrative and support activities employ 26,226, with 4,496 in the public sector and 21,730 in the private sector.
Culture, entertainment, and recreation employ 25,377, with 9,984 in the public sector and 15,393 in the private sector.
Transportation and storage employ 23,467, with 6,320 in the public sector and 17,147 in the private sector.
Electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply employ 17,596, with 1,532 in the public sector and 16,064 in the private sector.
Mining and quarrying employ 13,664, all of whom are in the private sector.
Agriculture, forestry, and fishing employ 13,707, with 970 in the public sector and 12,737 in the private sector.
Real estate activities employ 9,668, with 619 in the public sector and 9,049 in the private sector.
Water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation employ 7,287, with 4,111 in the public sector and 3,176 in the private sector.
