The proposed amendments to Armenia's electoral code may deprive citizens of their right to participate in elections. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, at a briefing.
According to Zakharova, the new amendments, which stipulate that citizens can participate in votes and referendums only if they have been residing in the country for six months before the voting day, contradict fundamental rights of citizens. She emphasized that such an approach could lead to the marginalization of the Armenian diaspora.
“This law seems to pursue opposite goals — to protect citizens' rights, but in reality, it may lead to the restriction of their rights,” she noted.
